The second annual Summit Salute for service members, veterans and their families will be held on Aug. 5 at the Mount Washington Auto Road in Gorham.
This event was held for the first time in 2016, funded by the N.H. Department of Health and Human Services. That year, 150 service members, veterans and their families of all ages enjoyed the cookout, presentations, games and ride to the top of Mt. Washington for sunset.
This year, without state funding the Volunteers for Veterans have raised the funds to hold the event again. There will be a cookout, games, bouncy house, military vehicles, veteran resources, speakers, music and that magical ride to the top of the mountain at sunset.
Attending the event is free for all service members, veterans and their families. Families whose service member is deployed are invited to attend. There is a charge for the ride to the mountain top, but with the generosity of the Mount Washington Auto Road and its drivers, the cost is greatly reduced to $10 per adult and $5 per child.
The Volunteers for Veterans thanked the Mount Washington Auto Road, The City of Berlin, Berlin City Auto Group, Service Credit Union, Bank of New Hampshire, Verizon, H&R Block, Berlin Market Place, Abbott Rental and the hundreds of Berlin area citizens who donated to the road toll for veterans.
Volunteers to help on the day of the event are needed. Scholarships are available for the Sunset ride. Contact Al Duncan at (239) 227-9108 for more information.
