Berlin Fire Department news

BERLIN — The Berlin Fire Department recently announced the hiring of Probationary Firefighters Derek Patry and Brandon Bisson, who have filled vacancies in the department created after recent retirements. Their positions are funded through the SAFER Grant, which Berlin Fire Department was awarded in 2015. Both members joined the deaprtment with one year of service on the call company.

Over the next year, Patry is looking forward to completing his pro board firefighter II and emergency medical technician training. Patry holds a bachelor of science in wildlife biology and forestry from Unity College. Prior to joining Berlin Fire Department, he worked for York Land Services of Berlin as a surveyor and licensed professional forester for seven years.

Bisson completed his associates degree in fire science from Lakes Region Community College in May 2017. Bisson was a live-in student at Center Harbor Fire Department, where he worked as a firefighter at night while attending college. Brandon is certified as a firefighter II and will be testing soon for his advanced emergency medical technician certification.

The fire department also reminds Berlin residents to get their 2017 fire permits. Permits can be obtained free of charge at the fire station, or purchased online for a minimal fee at Firefighters are always happy to issue fire permits, and this is also a good opportunity to meet the new firefighters and ask any safety-related questions you may have.
