Summer events for Berlin Recreation

Berlin Recreation announces the following schedule for summer programs.

CLiF - Children’s Literacy Foundation: Tuesday, July 18, at 1:30 p.m. at Berlin Recreation Center. A CLiF presenter will tell stories, discuss great books and encourage reading and writing. Each child (geared for ages 0 - 14) will have the opportunity to choose two books to keep.

Believe in Books: Summer Bookmobile with free, gently used books will be visiting area parks every Thursday starting June 29. Schedule as follows: 11-11:45 a.m. at Brookside Park; 1-1:30 p.m. at Community/Central Park; 2-2:30 p.m. at Grand Trunk Park.

And continue your summer fun by signing up for these programs: 

Basketball for students entering grades 3-6: Drills and fun games under the direction of Jim Couhie, $35 per person, Thursdays, starting July 6, for six weeks, 8:45-10 a.m.

Beginner/Instructional Baseball for ages 4-6: Learn the game with Instructor Jim Couhie, Thursdays at the Gilbert Street Field (inside Berlin Recreation in the event of inclement weather), 10:15-11:30 a.m., for six weeks; $35 per person. Please have child bring their own glove.

Girls Field Hockey Clinic: Open to girls entering grades 3-8. Instructor Marisa Lemoine will teach the basics of the game with drills and scrimmages, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, July 11-13, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Community Field; $40 per person. Register at Berlin Recreation.

Tumbling with Miss Marisa: A five-week program of tumbling, floor work and routines developed by instructor Marisa Villnave, 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesdays, starting July 19, at Berlin Recreation for students entering Grades 1-6; $35 per person.

Dance Program with Miss Marisa: Stretch, jump and dance with instructor Miss Marisa Villnave, Thursdays, 6-7:30 p.m. at Berlin Recreation Center. The five-week program begins July 20. Open to students entering Grades 1-6; $35 per person.

And don't forget: 

Playgrounds: Playgrounds open June 26, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. (Closed July 3 and 4). Structured play, crafts and games with enthusiastic leaders on site. Parents, remember children are free to come and go as they please.

Summer Meals: USDA Summer Meals begins July 5 for all school age children. (USDA Meals is an equal opportunity provider). Lunch at noon; snacks at 2:30 p.m.

Playground Sites are: Berlin Recreation Center, First Avenue; Community/Central Playground, Hutchins St; Brookside Park, Maynesboro St.; and Friendship Park, Mason Street. Playgrounds will operate until Aug. 11.
