Fourth of July flyer dedication goes to William Watson

GORHAM — William "Billy" Watson has been chosen for the 2017 Gorham Fourth of July flyer dedication.

Watson has been a Gorham resident all his life and graduated from Gorham High School in 1969. He joined the Gorham Fire Department in 1971 and achieved Firefighter I status. He’s been an active member of the fire department for the past 46 years, participated in many training exercises and volunteered in many fundraisers including breakfast, suppers, pizza trailer, raffles and conventions.

Watson has been married to his wife, Natalie, for 33 years. He has been a member of The Knights of Columbus for over 22 years and he has served many years with The Sons of the American Legion.

Watson has also been a member of the Fourth of July Committee since 1982, serving 35 years. He has held many responsibilities over the years, helping to give it the special 4th July Celebration that many people know today. His favorite duty is preparing for both of the 4th of July parades and he has worked to obtain parade permits and organizing line-up for the day of the fourth. He then followed up with working stand-by for the fireworks display along with his fellow firefighters.
