BERLIN — The second Book Sale of 2017 held by the Berlin and Coos County Historical Society will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the historic Brown Company barns. The barns are located on the East Milan road in Berlin about one mile north of the hospital and across from the state prison entrance. As usual, the sale will take place rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Organizers of the event ask that people do not come early.
More books have come in since the previous book sale in July. Home schoolers, there are juvenile versions of the classics such as: "Call of the Wild," "The Time Machine," "Moby Dick" and more. Also of interest to young adults are the "Twilight" series of books, plus "Junie B. Jones" and "The Babysitters Club."
These specialty items are in addition to the other departments: baskets, sports, records, cloth, and more. Large print books are located with the audio books; sports themed books are in the sports room. The furniture department on the lower level of the large barn has received more furniture since the July sale. Also, note that a large selection of picture frames, both large and small, can be found in both barns.
Proceeds from these yard sales go towards expenses to keep open the Moffett House Museum and Genealogy Center and to help preserve the barns. The museum, located at 119 High Street in Berlin, is open year-round, Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. or by appointment.
Call (603) 752-4590 for a appointment or to arrange for a group to tour the museum. Admission is free; donations are accepted. The next barn sale will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, and will feature Halloween items.
