Celebration Friday to mark 20th anniversary of Family Resource Center

GORHAM — The Family Resource Center is celebrating its 20th anniversary since its founding in 1997, with a belief that investing in children and strengthening families has valuable outcomes.

To mark the occasion, the non-profit organization is holding a celebration Friday, Nov. 3, at the Town and Country Inn and Resort in Shelburne. The event will open with a reception from 5:30 to 6 p.m., followed by a presentation. There will be a fall-inspired buffet featuring local foods and a cash bar. Tickets are $20.

The center works to support families with professionals making home visits to help clients with budgeting skills, life and stress management, parenting skills, prenatal and infant care. The center also runs after-school programs for children in grades one to eight in Berlin and Gorham Schools, working on social development and enrichment activities.

The center’s Volunteer Tax Assistance Program has helped more than 3,000 people recover more than $3.5 million in income tax refunds since it was started in 2005. The program uses certified volunteers to help families and individuals with federal income tax filings.
