BERLIN — The Coos Economic Development Corporation has announced the recipients of the Fall 2017 grant round: Mount Washington Regional Airport in Whitefield for marketing, St Kieran Community Center for the Arts for renovations, Strafford County Conservation District for signage and North Country ATV in North Stratford for trail maintenance.
Community groups and nonprofit organizations that serve Coos County were encouraged to apply. The next application deadline is March 19, 2018.
CEDC has a competitive, twice-per-year, grant application process, with a maximum funding amount of $2,500 per application. (go to coosedc.org or the Facebook page @coosedc for more details) The goal is to create greater awareness of the availability of these funds and receive applications from a diverse set of organizations.
Coming up is the new Community Business Beautification Program which will be rolled out this winter, and will focus on brick-and-mortar community business beautification efforts. Acceptable projects can range from plantings and shrubs to painting, benches, signage and exterior improvements that preserve and improve the look of a business. This will require a one-to-one match to the $2,500 grant, and for qualified applicants, the option to receive a two-year micro-loan through CEDC. More information will be outlined soon.
CEDC manages the Coos County Economic Development Fund on behalf of the county commissioners and delegation. These funds are used for both loans and grants and prioritize the identification of initiatives that benefit the region’s economic growth. The CEDC’s goal when using the fund is to stimulate consumer spending, providing support for prospective entrepreneurs and current small business owners, and the attraction of new businesses to Coos County. Plans are currently being made for future SCORE workshops and a Service Industry Roundtable.
The new office is located at 149 Main St., Lancaster, on the second floor of the George M. Stevens Building. Created to promote economic opportunity and business development, CEDC provides continuing support for existing and new businesses within Coös County. It facilitates Community Development Block Grants, maintains a revolving loan fund, administers the Coos County Economic Development Fund and provides grants and technical assistance for businesses throughout the North Country.
