Northeast Credit Union and their community members joined together in support of Hunger Action Month, an awareness initiative started by Feeding America. For the month of September, NECU collected donations in all of its 20 branches throughout New Hampshire and Maine. The N.H. Food Bank and the Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine worked with NECU to collect and distribute the items to local food pantries.
“We are so thankful to Northeast Credit Union for their generous support of the N.H. Food Bank, and, in turn, the thousands of N.H. residents who do not know where their next meal will come from,” said Eileen Groll Liponis, executive director of the N.H. Food Bank. “Their branches collected a total of 662 pounds of food, which allows the Food Bank to provide 552 meals for our friends and neighbors facing hunger here in N.H.”
“Not everyone realizes that food insecurity is a real problem in our local communities,” said Andrea Pruna, NECU senior vice president and chief marketing and retail officer. “When we all work together, a little help from each of us can go a long way. We saw a great outpouring of support, and want to sincerely thank everyone who contributed.”
Feeding America is one of the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organizations, working with hundreds of food banks across the country in the fight against food insecurity.
The N.H. Food Bank is a program of Catholic Charities N.H. that has been working to relieve hunger in the Granite State since 1984. The N.H. Food Bank receives no federal or state funding for food distribution. For more information about the New Hampshire Food Bank, go to www.nhfoodbank.org.
