Jamie A. Cooney, 48, of Colebrook, died on Friday evening, Feb. 10, 2017, in Stratford Hollow.
He was born in Berlin, on Oct. 8, 1968. Jamie was a 1987 graduate of Berlin High School.
After graduating, he worked for York Land Services in Berlin. He then moved to Colebrook and began a career in the service department at The Balsams Grand Resort for more than 20 years. He worked as a doorman and later in the maintenance department until the resort closed. His most enjoyable task at The Balsams was working as a groomer on winter evenings at the Wilderness Ski Area.
In more recent years, Jamie operated heavy machinery for local logging contractors, including Michael Grandmaison and Yves Marquis. Jamie loved the outdoors. When he was not working in the woods, he would often be hunting, fishing, or boating in his beloved north country.
He is survived by his two children, Private 1st Class Creed Cooney, currently stationed at Ft. Carson, Colo., with the U.S. Army, and Chandla Cooney of Colebrook; his father, Gary Cooney of Berlin; his mother, Beverly Waystack and husband Philip of Colebrook; a brother, Jeremy Cooney of Colebrook; and his partner Melanie Stone of Colebrook.
There are no public calling hours. Memorial calling hours will be on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook.
