One person killed and two injured in separate ATV accidents at Jericho park

BERLIN — A local man was killed and two other people injured in separate ATV accidents at Jericho Mountain State Park the past weekend.

Andre Senay, 65, of Berlin died of extensive injuries he received in an accident on the Lake Loop Trail Sunday afternoon at the park.

According to N.H. Fish and Game, people riding with Senay called 911 shortly after 5 p.m. to report he had crashed his vehicle.

They began CPR while waiting for first responders to arrive. Fish and Game, Berlin police, Berlin EMS and Berlin Fire Department responded to the scene, arriving at 5:30 p.m. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Senay was pronounced dead at the scene. Fish and Game said the incident is under investigation.

First responders were called to the park Saturday night to an ATV accident that injured two people.

Meghan Hart, 22, of Warwick, R.I., was operating a borrowed ATV on the Brook Road rail near the intersection with the Camp Loop Trail. While descending a hill, Hart lost control of the ATV and drove off of the trail and into a ditch.

The ATV rolled over, injuring both Meghan and her passenger, 24-year-old Dennis Marquis, also of Warwick, R.I. A member of Hart’s party called for help, shortly before 7 p.m.

Personnel from the Berlin Fire Department, Berlin EMS, Berlin Police Department and N.H. Fish and Game Department responded to the scene. Hart and Marquis were taken from the scene in a specially equipped off-road rescue vehicle and taken to a waiting ambulance.

They were then taken to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin for further evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Both were found to be wearing helmets and eye protection, essential safety gear that protected them from further injury. Fish and Game said in appears inexperience was a major factor in the accident.
