Keeping the Stats: NCHL Finals

When the puck dropped last night, there were two teams remaining that raged war against each other in hopes of skating away with the NCHL crown. The defending champions, Berlin City Ford, geared up to take on Crackerjack. The guys from the lounge were on the brink of elimination only to battle back and pull out a victory to heave themselves into the finals hoping to dethrone the guys from BCF. Semi-Finals Action Thursday Feb. 27th, 2003 • Crackerjack 3, Isaacson 2 (OT) With 1:20 left in overtime, Gary Rivard was left alone on the right side of the net, received a pass, and then banged home the game winning goal to advance his team into the finals. Isaacson Goals: Pat Hickey (Casey Leveille & Billy Dupont), Leveille (Dupont) Crackerjack Goals: Gary Rivard (John Piet & Gary Williams), Piet (Williams & Rivard), Rivard (Williams & Piet) Marc Giroux kept the blue and yellow in the game making 26 acrobatic saves, while Don Labrecque made 29 saves for the Lounge. Berlin City Ford 4 Delaney’s 2 In a game that ended with an all out brawl, it was clear these two showed what true hockey players are all about; heart and desire. Thanks to a pair of goals from Steve Vien, BCF sent the guys from Conway on the long journey home with a bad taste in their months. BCF Goals: Derrick Gagne (Rollie Poirier & Ivan Downs), Ivan Downs (unassisted), Steve Vien (Gagne), Vien (Eddy Deblois) Delaney’s Goals: Jim Weber (Rich Vargas & Jim Terry), Wayne Valliere (Justin Frechette) Chad Pandora saw a lot of rubber en route to making 28 saves, while Dave Lachance made 15 saves to return his team to the finals. Finals Preview BCF (14-3-1) finished in 1st place during regular season, while CJ was in 3rd place, now standing at 10-6-2. They are the only team in the playoffs to go undefeated so far. These two teams met a week ago in the round robin, with CJ coming out with a 3-2 win. Game two will follow this coming Thursday at 7:30, and should there be a game three, the puck will drop next Monday on March 10th at 7:30.
