GORHAM — Senior guard Felicia Voisine scored a team-high 11 points to lead the Gorham girls' basketball team to a "much needed" victory over the Lisbon Panthers, 42-39, in Gorham, on Friday.

The win has Gorham currently at 6-8 and just one spot out of making the playoffs. The loss left the Panthers at 10-6 on the winter.

Both teams came out cautiously and took their time on the offensive ends of the floor. After eight minutes of play, the two teams were deadlocked at 11-11. Laura Suprchi had two hoops for the visitors and senior Jana Oelofse two buckets for the home team.

Lisbon went cold offensively in the second session and when Superchi picked up her third foul and went to the bench, the Panthers managed just five points. The Huskies scored 10 points in the second quarter to lead 21-16 at the half. Hardworking Lillian Couture had a hoop and a pair of foul shots to lead the Gorham offense.

Lisbon made their run at Gorham in the third quarter and tied the game 26-26 with just over a minute to go. Voisine knocked down her third three-pointer of the game to put Gorham on top 29-26 with eight minutes to play.

In the fourth quarter freshman Karly Cordwell worked the paint and helped the locals push out to a 35-26 advantage. However, the Panthers worked their way back into the game by putting the Huskies at the free throw line and applying a full-court press. The Huskies were without point guard Delaney Holmes and it showed in the fourth quarter. At the foul line in the final quarter, Gorham was 5-15 and allowed Lisbon to get back into the game. Alexis Kruskie hit one of two free throws with nine ticks on the clock for a 42-39 score.

Panther Klara Burke had a very good look at a three pointer that caught the rim and bounced high and hit the strapping above the back board for a Gorham ball with 1.8 seconds to play. On the in-bounds, Lisbon forced a Gorham turnover and got the ball back with 1.0 seconds left. A Panther shot fell short and Gorham had a much-needed win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

For the game, Lisbon got 13 points each from Superchi and Jenna Myers.

Voisine had 11 points and Cordwell 10 to pace the Gorham offense.
