BERLIN — Looking for something to get out and do this fall and winter? Why not make a night of dinner and bowling with the Friday night fun league. This league is a four-person team, handicap league.
You may ask, What is a handicap league? Most amateur bowling leagues and tournaments use the bowling handicap system. Your bowling handicap allows you to compete against other bowlers with varying levels of skill and ability with an equal chance of winning.
A bowling handicap is a percentage of the difference between your average and a basis average. If you’ve never bowled in a league, don’t worry. Leagues assign you an average until you establish one or apply your initial average retroactively as soon as you bowl a few games. So don’t let yourself not join for fear of “not being good enough.”
The object of a league is to enjoy yourself and have some fun with your teammates and with others in your league. Handicap leagues usually bring out a friendly competition. Bowling in handicap leagues can be rewarding both by remaining competitive but also the enjoyment by competing for prizes or money.
The cost is approximately $13 per week with shoe rental. The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) sanctioning fees are about $20 yearly. The league begins Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.
So, why not give it a try! Come have some Friday night fun with other “thank goodness it Friday” folks.
